happy valentines...a mini-giveaway.

Last week, I made grandiose promises about sharing the story of how Gabriel and I met. And I will--within the next week. (And thank you for your excitement over hearing the tale!)

But this weekend, as spent a weekend of relaxation with a close girlfriend, I started to think about Valentine's Day. And love. And how, in my single years, Valentine's Day was an entirely terrible day of not receiving flowers at the office, lacking dinner plans, aching to return home to sweatpants and polishing off an entire pizza alone. (Color me embarrassed...but it's true.) But, a sweet Valentine or a small gift from a girlfriend made those wretched 24-hours salvageable.

And so, instead of schmearing more romance on a day which I'm certain millions of girls would rather spend hiding under the covers...I would like to host a mini-giveaway, open to anyone whose Valentine's Day is kinda sucking the big one. The prize? These super sweet Cover Story Postcards, featuring 100 of Penguin Publishing's best covers + books. I received them as a V-day gift and am loving them...I'm sure you'll enjoy, too!

Single or not single, if your V-day is less than ideal, please do leave a comment today letting me know. You don't have to bear your soul, unless that's therapeutic for you...in which case, the doctor is in.

I'll post the winner tomorrow.

Deep breaths, disappointed V-dayers. This too shall pass! :)

And don't forget to enter the big giveway, open through Thursday!

  1. I may not be single this Valentine's Day but it feels awful lonely not to be with my boyfriend today. Long distance will do that to a girl.

  2. I'm lucky to be with my honey today so don't count me in, but I just had to comment on how cute these cards are!

    Hope things look brighter tomorrow!

  3. I think the worst thing about this Valentine's Day is not knowing whether I'm single or in a relationship. The guy I'm involved with claims he "loves" me but "loves" another girl too.
My friends all have boyfriends, and they wanted to do a group date...but I'm not sure what to do.

But yeah, the cards are incredibly adorable. :)
Have a good one, and eat lots of chocolate, I read that chocolate gives you the same euphoria that love does, if that makes any sense.

  4. I have never been smitten with Valentine's Day even when I had a boyfriend, but today no bf, a confusing relationship with a guy 8 hours away and working all day makes for a semi-weird day. I do love the cards though! Happy day to you!

  5. I don't know if I'd go so far as to say it's terrible (it's probably true that you can't miss what you never had), but being chronically single seems a lot lonelier when so many people who aren't are making a big deal of it.

  6. My fiance and I haven't exchanged gifts since our first Valentine's Day together I don't think. We usually go out to dinner together (which we did last night). We had a great time. :)

  8. Although my plans were changed, I am having an okay Valentine's. I was lifted up by my handmade cards (courtesy of YOU!), and the sweet people around me.

...but part of me still thinks today sucks.

  9. I hate to be the person who says that Valentines Day sucks....well, I just won't say it.
However, I am cheered up by the oddly warm weather, and the flowers that a group on campus is handing out (I have a yellow one sitting on my desk) :)

  14. Awww, so sweet! Please enter me even though I don't hate Valentine's Day. I am single, but I still love the day of love!

Also--you ordered the same headband from Gracie?? Amazing! It's so cute. Headbands always give me a headache so I'm wearing mine intermittently but I love it. :)

  17. I'm NOT entering this giveaway but I just wanted to say that you are amazing Bethany.
I remember those crappy V-days where I was single and HATED seeing men walk down the street with paper wrapped flowers going to be delivered to their waiting ladies.
You are the best for doing this! xoxo

  18. While I'm more than qualified to enter this giveaway (25 years single), it'd be weird if I won, cause I'm your sister...so please don't enter me.

But I have to share that this is the first Valentine's Day I haven't been completely miserable for. It's all a matter of where your heart is...and God's got mine, so I'm all good! I've found that doing things for other people around this time of year makes the day seem that much more enjoyable!

  23. I am single. But I'm in pretty good shape, I'd say. I worked most of the day and was treated to dinner by family that is dear to my heart. I may be drinking an entire bottle of wine before the night's over, but I think that's allowed.

  24. my husband gave me a choice for valentine's dinner: taco bell or mcdonalds. does that qualify as sucking the big one? :)

    love those postcards!

  26. I had a great Valentine's day with my favourite friend in the world, complete with cinnamon dolce lattes, pedicures and a leisurely lunch sans enfants, then homemade pizza and an evening at the movies (The King's Speech... LOVED IT)!

But musby hand claimed to have thought Valentine's Day was on Tuesday, so I have yet to receive a card, flowers, anything. Hmph.

Still, I loved the day. And I love those postcards. I've got the set.

  27. I *hate* Valentine's Day this year. All my friends are coupled up. My best friend died three weeks ago, and my boyfriend broke up with me (in an EMAIL) one week ago (I blogged about it all, in what I hope is a humorous way). And yesterday - V Day itself - I started the day with an emergency visit to the dentist, because I had dental surgery last weekend and now it turns out my stitches are infected. I've been feeling lonely, rejected, unattractive, you name it. How did I spend my V Day evening? In sweat pants and a facial mask, eating a tub of Ben and Jerry's ice cream (the whole tub), while watching "The Bachelor". There's irony there, I realize.
