don't leave me alone with a pup.
I grew up with a playful kitten, who grew into a stand-offish cat that never gave us those pleading eyes...the kind that long for a stray pepperoni slice. Therefore, I have not learned to say "no" to begging pets. When my ex-boyfriend and I had a kitten, most of our fights began with me feeding the kitten things that no animal should ever eat. Macaroni and cheese. Pizza. Licorice....
When we split, he took the cat...the best option for all involved, given that the cat would have ballooned to 50 lbs in my presence.
What can I say? I have soft heart...and I want to share the food-love. This proves to be especially dangerous when I visit my best friend, and am left alone with Wyatt, their gentle and sweet pit. Today, while Wyatt's parents were at work, I set out to teach him an old school trick. Given my inexperience with pups, Wyatt and I found ourselves covered in dog slobber, and burning through the remnants of a bag of pretzels. He patiently drooled while I balanced pretzels on his nose, and applauded his efforts...clumsy as they may be.
We've successfully completed this "trick" twice, both times the pretzel balancing no more than a nanosecond before Wyatt destroyed it. I'm certain it was a fluke. Now I'm out out pretzels, and we're both feeling like this...

He is SO cute and I love his name. I have a hard time saying no to dogs, too . . . especially since they can't understand WHY we're saying no!
ReplyDeleteOh my! At least it was only pretzels! We have four cats. You would be tempted beyond your power! Haha
ReplyDeleteDogs are my fave - ironically, I dislike cats (even though that's my name). Dogs are just so fun and always happy to see you!
ReplyDeleteThats my boy WyWy... Miss ya every day goober, but you had a job to do and it looks like are doing a good job at it. Winning over hearts and showing your love!
ReplyDeleteawww. pit's are the cutest! they've perfected the begging eyes
ReplyDeleteyou are just the cuuuutest!!! seriously, i adore you! even more so now that you are just as giving with animals ;)
ReplyDelete{i have 3 dogs so you know i'm pretty much that "crazy dog lady" and i don't care!}
i just want to hug wyatt!!!
How fun - maybe you could teach Charlie that trick for me!?
ReplyDeleteYou would have loved my little chihuahua puppies. The level of cuteness is indescribable. If they ever have more I would sneak one to you because I know that he/she would be spoiled. We all can't wait to visit again.
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love!!
ReplyDeleteAfter volunteering at the SPCA cats have grown on me, but I'll always consider myself a dog gal! My heart breaks every time I see a dog on campus because I know I can't realistically have one until after graduate school (one of my roommates is allergic and it'd be really hard on the bank account).
I'm actually really glad that your friend's pup happens to be a Pit Bull. I work with them a lot at the SPCA and they are so incredibly sweet and gentle but people ask me all the time if they're mean or try to bite me. They have such bad reputations but I've never met a mean Pit.
Thanks for sharing Bethany and I think there are several of us in the boat with you that can't resist those puppy dog eyes (on dogs or men). Thanks for your sweet comment on my post today - it helps to hear feedback when I brainstorm on stuff like this. Noah and I are the first to go through wedding planning in our families (and that's including 4 older cousins on his side!).
I think it's cute that you and Gabe talk about it - you're right, it'd be hard to figure out which side to fly somewhere. Good luck with your decisions in the future!
Hope you had a happy Wednesday (ironically one of the pups in an apartment across from us is barking as I type this)!
Awwww... so cute! I love his spot around his eye :)
ReplyDeleteYou are such a softie!
ReplyDeletethat is the single CUTEST pit bull I've ever seen.....after mine that is!
ReplyDeleteThis makes my heart ache for a sweet dog like this one!
ReplyDeleteawwwww Wyatt is such a cutie! no one could say no to those brown eyes of his :)
ReplyDeleteSo guilty here! I discovered that my pups are picky....meaning they will eat anything including their veggies and fruits if I give it to them before their dog food meal. But if I give it to them after and there is other food around, they will wait for the better treat! I grew up with two cats, who never gave me the kind of attention my dogs do! Good and bad. Dogs are like 5 year olds for 10-15 years old. One dog is actually like a new born going on 6! He cries 2-5 times a night to go out side, get water, he is hot....So draining on the sleep. My other dogs, so easy sleep right through the night. I feel like a parent just talking about it!
