we're on the move.

(Me, last month...rowing our little rowboat at the Palace of Versailles. Place is HUGE.)

Did I mention that I'm planning a wedding? Oh...I did? Six bajillion times already? Well, just incase you missed it on the 5,999,999,999th time: I'm planning a wedding. A wedding in California, while living in Wisconsin, with the fiance in Iraq. Just a lil' tricky. ;)

So, I'm hittin' the road early tomorrow morning, packing my bags and jetting to California to do big things. Big things like...see the wedding location which we've already reserved + paid for, but haven't yet seen. (Eek!) Look over catering menus with my best bud. See the face of a florist. Perhaps I'll convince myself to try on some new wedding dresses...maybe even the dress I've been salivating over for months.

(Truth time: Gabe did most of the rowing. I rowed us in circles. A lot.)

Lest I make it sound like I'm doing all the work, it should be noted that Gabriel is more than pulling his fair share of the wedding weight. He's been totally involved...even bummed on nights we Skype but don't wind up discussing our nuptials. Just days before he left, he invested in a few "How To Be a Great Groom" books, which boiled groomery down to these two things:

1. Do whatever she wants.

2. Don't screw it up.

I'd say that's pretty solid advice. :)

Happy weekend!

P.S. My email inbox has seriously gone to the dogs since beginning this wedding planning ish. Seriously. It's wild and scary up in there...and sometimes I have nightmares about it. Planning from a distance is freakin' HARD...it's email overload. So, if you've emailed me and haven't heard back? I'm so, so sorry. I promise I'm not being a snob. Will work on amending this situation ASAP.

  1. ahhh Versailles....one of my favorite places in the world.

Wedding planning is insane. You don't realize how insane it is until you start doing it. Good luck!!

  2. Happy Weekend indeed! Have a marvellous time in Cali with Becky. So... does this mean that after the wedding {and dreamy honeymoon in Santorini} that you'll be moving to Sacramento? Because seriously... northern California is not so far from me! I think we'll need to have a meet-up somewhere in between, don't you?

Enjoy your wedding planning. You'll only do it once, so try not to let it stress you out. Embrace it and have fun!

PS: I love that photo of you "rowing" the boat. LOVE IT.

  3. Enjoy the planning and try to make sure it doesn't overwhelm you. It's a super fun process (if you let it be) with the BEST reward at the end :-)

Where in CA are you getting married? I'm a Cali girl so super curious.

  4. Bethany,
I have been so enjoying your blog and posts about all the planning and heart you and Gabe are putting into your special day. I adore your idea of collecting all the flatware from thrift stores for the wedding, you have a great eye for these details. Have a wonderful trip to California and I can't wait to hear all the details of your planning out West. How special that your best girlfriend gets to share this trip/the planning with you!

  5. I live close to Sac. I'm curious as to what location you picked and why. When you wrote that you were getting married in Cali, I instantly started going through all the lovely locations that are throughout the state...

  6. I think you could teach me a thing or two. I'm not nearly as excited about wedding planning as I feel I should be. Hah. I love the advice for grooms! It sounds about right although honestly I'd like Noah to take over whatever he wants.

I hope your flight is enjoyable and safe today (now?). It must be hard to plan a wedding from that type of distance!

  7. Bethany! I discovered your blog through the fabulous Erin and after reading through nearly the entirety of your archives, have decided that we're the same person. I looked for an email address but couldn't find one on here, so just wanted to say hi! And tell you that you're awesome! And also that we both just got engaged in Paris to men we first got to know through written correspondence before falling madly in love in a short period of time. I told you we're the same. Looking forward to following along on your adventures.

    xo,
    Kayla
