keepin' it real: weekend project.

I love a blown out photo, vintage collection and fussed over space like every other girl. But let's face it: Real life ain't no Pinterest board, and curating a fabulous space is a little more than just a click away. And lest I ever be accused of editing out who I really am...I like to throw a little scary reality into this blog o' mine from time to time. So, welcome to my dirty little secret: the office. There are so many frightening things about this space + picture. Let's skip right past my turquoise sports bra, makeupless face and unbrushed hair (!!!), and head straight for the big ones:

1. There is little to no decorative effort made in my work area. This is where I write, edit photos and troll for inspiration. Yet, it's seriously under inspiring. Buzzkill.

2. Last night's wine glass + root beer bottle are just chillin' on my desk. Clearly I was drinking away my creative troubles...while that's easily changed by a trip to the kitchen sink, I still feel the need to point out that this happens frequently. And it likely won't change.

3. This space sometimes functions as a vanity. And a craft desk. And a regular desk. A homework space. Hence the unrelated, various items strewn about.

I'm giving myself one hour of Pinterest scheming...and am then determined to tackle this blush-worthy workspace this weekend. Hopefully, I'll be back Monday with photos of a transformed space that will leave me inspired, ready to get down to brass tacks in my creative digs. Wish me luck! :)

Do you have a dirty little secret space in your home? Someplace less than inspired and photoworthy?

  1. I hear you girl! I just saw a blogger post a photo of her awe-inspiring office and was beginning to wonder if everyone in the world but me had a decked-out space. I think it's hard to fulfill that creativity outlet while also performing functionally. You're probably similar to me since you have school still! It's not an empty room it is quite used and yes, food/glasses do tend to clutter up my desk counter too. My office is also my bedroom and is also my main area of living because I live in an apartment. I really don't have much space at all but I do hope to use a Painting Chevron tutorial I found this week to paint my desk hutch before the hurricane sends me lots of rain. That could be fun!

I hope you find the inspiration to make your office amazing and hopefully this post along with a few other home improvement posts this week will motivate me to make a few changes myself!

  2. Is that a TV as your computer screen? it's ginormous!

  3. @Brandi: I wish I were that tech savvy! It's actually just a 27" computer monitor. It's lovely for watching movies and such in my office/bedroom area. Sometimes it is a little overwhelming for day to day computer tasks, though. :)

  4. You can blame the Computer screen on me. I tend to overdo the tech way more then Bethany would like. :)

  6. "Clearly I was drinking away my creative troubles" is one of the most hilarious comments I've read in a long time. +100 cool points. :)

And now, I'm going to go stalk you on Pinterest.

  7. The table behind you is super adorable - you have such great taste. I would recommend a great bulletin board above you. It helps things stay organized and puts what you need at your fingertips without everything having to be on a desk. Can't wait to see what else you come up with.

  9. I didn't have doorknobs on any of my doors because I took them all down to clean the paint off of them and then was sick for weeks. 7 weeks later they are finally back up because my husband was tired of having to block our cats out of the bedroom with a bench we use for our throw pillows because the door wouldn't shut. am blushing...but totally true!

  12. So glad I'm not the only one hiding certain things behind the camera!!

  13. my project also! I have the office plan space planed just trying to dig my self out of a few big projects to get the organization going. It is hard because one month the organization works then you get more busy add a few tasks to the area and then it doesn't work anymore and time to reorganize again. On going project of organization! I always find I need more shelves, boxes, labels, drawers.... never ending story of real life!

  15. My entire house looks like this. Actually, it's much worse. My clutter bug tendancies + my hatred of cleaning is a disastrous sum.

  16. My entire bedroom is a disaster area! I am excited to see the after pictures!

    have a good weekend!

  17. Erm you should see my lounge room most days. The coffee table is an explosion of craft items, letters and random bits and pieces strewn about.

Your desk still looks amazing :) I really look forward to seeing what you come up with.

  18. My office, it seems, no matter how many times I reorganise and tidy never ever looks like I wish it did. I let out a huge sigh everytime I see a office beauty on Pinterest and know that mine will simply never look like that. I can't wait to see your finished space on Monday though. Happy weekend dear girl.
