getting legit.

I'm a bit of a shy blogger--it's a family member or my husband who tells others that I write here. When it comes up in conversation, I'm always my worst critic, forever saying, "Oh, it's just this little silly thing I do. It's nothing, it's small. So many people do it better."

But deep down, I really, really love it. It's a huge part of who I am, who I know...and I have this quiet pride that I've actually stuck to it for years. Even if I die of embarrassment over my first few years of blogging. Ish.

I've started to apply the quote above to my creative efforts, too. Whatever you are...be a good one. Do it well, and don't be shy in taking pride in what you've tied your heart into.

So, first things first...I finally bought a legit website. Then, I hired a fabulous graphic designer to do an overhaul on my space. (Cannot wait to see it.) And that whole "be a good one" also means a little online clean up--when I started this blog in 2008, I had no clue what Twitter was, and I don't believe Instagram was even a "thing", therefore I wasn't intentional about keeping usernames + websites consistent through the years. I even did silly things like using my maiden name...after I got engaged. What the what? I know.

I know.

Let's make it a bit easier. Here's where you can find me all around the web!

Whew. That feels better already. :)

  1. Well you may not think it's much, but I love to read you blog. Now that you facebook, I anxiously wait to see what cute crafting idea or party idea will pop up in the newsfeed every day or so. So, please, please keep blogging... there are definitely quite a few of us who aren't family that would miss it if you stopped.

  2. Completely agree with Kate above. I'm not family and have probably never even commented on here (though I have on your Facebook page), but I would certainly miss you if you stopped blogging!
And here's a little example of how great you really are at it, whether you acknowledge it or not: I'm a copywriter at a women's fashion company, and we just recently started a new online community for women/our customers. We've been trying to get bloggers to contribute to our page to add a little excitement and get different voices. I was becoming a bit frustrated with the options our consultant on the project was presenting us, and I sent a link to your site to my boss. It was accompanied with a note saying, "If ONLY she was our demographic. THIS is the type of writing we need!" (Our demographic is plus size women, mainly 45+.) My boss responded a few moments later, "Beautiful. Just beautiful."

That was my long way of saying...you rock. You're already so good at this. Keep it up!

  3. Love your blog, and I'm pretty exited to see the overhaul too.
I still use my maiden name..hard to break the habit. :/

  11. I am the same way with my blog, I get so self concious when people I know in real life find out about it. I love seeing you in all parts of the interweb one of my favourite reads!

  12. That's one of my favorite quotes. I got a silly, excited feeling in my stomach hearing about your new site. It's so wonderful to have everything in order! @mygirlsimple will be following you!

  14. I've tried to make my online presence as streamlines as possible, but it would seem 'Lavender's Green' is really popular! I tried changing my blog name last week to streamline it a bit more, and got a text from a friend saying my blog had been taken down, haha. Ah, you win some you lose some!

Every time you comment, a unicorn gets his wings. Also, my phone beeps and your words bring me joy. :)
